Hoping that sharing this poem will bring some comfort within our grief:
"What Is Dying"
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch until at last she hangs
like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says,
“There she goes!”
Gone where?
Gone from my sight . . . that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the place of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
And just at the moment
when someone at my side says,
“There she goes!”
there are other eyes watching her coming . . .
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout . . .
“Here she comes!”
That is ..-- “dying”….

For over 30 years Stephen Plain has been part of our family. We are blessed with warm-hearted family vacation and holiday memories over all these years. From the earliest days, when Bill and Steve celebrated Christmas at our house so that we could stay home with our babies, to recent years when Bill and Steve hosted home-cooked Christmas dinners for us as we traveled back home from our new place in Kentucky, Steve showed his good humor, generous spirit, and inherent integrity in all that he did. We will greatly miss him.

Steve,
A hole has been punched into my heart. You were a best childhood friend. How could I ever forget the many happy or sad hours we spent together. How many joys and tribulations we went through together!! I will always remember you, friend. Rest in Peace!!

I'm just so sad to see that Steve passed away. We worked together in a couple of shows and I remember some of my best laughs in my life were shared with this very special man. I know he'll be deeply missed. My deepest condolences to his family. xoxo

I am so sad about this. My memories of Steve go back to childhood. He was so kind and funny. He was my Henry in Lion in Winter. He was my hero in Star Spangled Girl. We laughed together on and off the stage. Our families spent many summers in the Adirondacks at Eagle Bay/ 4th lake. I will miss him.
