I met Ruth when she was on the Volunteer Board of the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. We bonded on a train trip to Jefferson City, MO, to lobby for funding for the Arts. Spending time on a train together is a great way to get to know someone, and we really hit it off, sharing a love for the theatre, for books, and sharing stories of our lives. She was a singular woman.

Dear Family, I first met Ruth when I moved to Chesterfield from New Jersey in 1989. She was a wonderful, dedicated member of Ballwin-Chesterfield AAUW, and a great source of wisdom to us all. We missed her when she moved to Oregon and rejoiced when she moved back. My deepest sympathy to you.

Dear Family, Although she has been away from our AAUW Ballwin-Chesterfield Literature I book club for several years, I still miss Ruth's insightful discussions and obvious joy in talking about excellent literature. She was a role model and a mentor for me as a new member of the branch and, later, when I joined the board. Her strong support for girls and women never wavered, and her devotion to the mission of our branch of AAUW was an example for the members. Most of all, I enjoyed hearing Ruth's take on the characters, themes, and language of all the books we shared over the years. Her absence was deeply felt, and I wish beautiful memories of Ruth to be with you all. Bette

How fortunate we are to have been among Ruth's friends in the St. Louis area. We became acquainted with Ruth and Emery through the New Neighbors wine tasting group. It was always interesting and refreshing to be with Ruth as her conversation was so thoughtful, considered, and stimulating. Ginny and Tom We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. We were so glad to have known both your parents for many of the Florida years when y’ou were growing up. We really got to be friends during the “scouting years”. It was a lot of fun but the friendship continued on after they moved to St Louis. But unfortunately, time and distance took its toll and we lost track. But we have lots of memories to look back on. Ruth was a dedicated AAUW member in the Fairport Area Branch (NYS) adding to discussions, participating in programs, and supporting the organization in a variety of ways. Despite health challenges Ruth was a good conversationalist and displayed pride in her membership and leadership in other branches. She was certainly proud of her family and often commented on the loving support she received from family and friends. I was glad to have spent time with Ruth and appreciated the chance to connect with her through AAUW! My sympathy to the family on a tremendous loss.
