Obituary of Ruth Quinsey Dray
Rochester — Ruth Q. “Quin” Dray, 97, of Brighton, NY died Sunday, April 28, 2019, in Monroe Community Hospital.
Ruth was born in Gananoque, Ontario, February 6, 1922. She was the daughter of Frederick and Catherine Rotter Quinsey, and the younger sister of Marion who pre-deceased her. She attended schools in Gananoque, Cape Vincent, and graduated from Clayton High School. After High School she moved to Rochester and was trained as a registered nurse at Highland Hospital. That is where she picked up the nicknames “Quin” or “Quinny”.
She married John S. “Jack” Dray on May 17, 1944 in Rochester. They lived in Cuba briefly after WWII until Jack was discharged from the Navy, then returned to Rochester. They were happily married for more than 60 years, until Jack’s death in 2004. She is survived by three sons, Tom (Janet) of San Diego, California, Bill of Brighton and Jim (Suzanne) of Buffalo. Also surviving her are six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one nephew and one niece.
Like many women of her generation, Quin worked until her children were born, then stayed home to raise her children. Later in life she served as the office manager for Alliance Fence Company, the family business. She remained close with her Highland Hospital classmates and attended numerous reunions and get togethers. She may be the last surviving member of her class. Mrs. Dray was an enthusiastic traveler having visited on one or more occasions Europe, China, and Australia with her sister. Quin and Jack also traveled by car or van through almost all the states in the United States, with visits to Hawaii and Alaska by air and water.
She provided love and laughter to her family and neighbors, and will be sorely missed. There will be no calling hours.
