Obituary of Adair E. Phillips
Adair Elaine Phillips was born September 21st 1936 in Kingston Jamaica to Ernest and Lurline Phillips. She attended the Central Branch primary school and Kingston Technical school. She later taught kindergarten for a brief period. In October of 1959 with the help of her uncle Herbert Blanchard she migrated to London England. There she started her career in production working at Luca wire factory. Whilst in England she met Sodah Mark and the union produced a son Courtney mark.
In 1963 she migrated to Brooklyn New York, but fell in love with Rochester, after visiting a childhood friend there in 1966. Soon after arriving there she was hired by Eastman Kodak where she continued her production career for another 25 years until her retirement in 1991.
In retirement she continued her favorite activities of shopping, dining out with her sister and occasional travel until illness slowed her down 2008.
If Elaine - as she is known to the family - had a motto it would be "Family First". Nothing motivated her the way family did. From cooking them a good meal when they visited, to barrels filled with goodies for everyone when she visited Jamaica, family was at her core. Nothing was spared when it came to family.
Adair was confirmed at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kingston and took pride in her Catholic faith which grew stronger with time. Prayer anytime anywhere was her belief. She would say you don't have to get down on your knees to pray, while you are driving just say, Lord help me.
On May 23rd 2019 Adair left us to be with The Lord, but promised she would always be watching over us .
She is survived by her son, Courtney (Kristin) Mark; her grandchildren, René and Amber; and siblings: Clive (Norma), Owen and Verna Phillips.
The family will be holding a private service on Saturday, June 1st.
