Obituary of Stephen E. Olesik

Stephen is survived by his parents, Joseph and Renee Olesik; his mother, Patti Olesik; brother, Michael; sister, Sandra; Grandmother, Helen Moehlmann; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was well-loved by everyone who knew him.

He earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University at Buffalo.

A child from Russia, Stephen was funny, entertaining, intelligent and engaging.   He embodied a passion for American and international history and current events.  He faced life head on and didn’t let anything stop him.  His lifelong medical challenges fueled his deep search for understanding, quest for knowledge, and burning interest in God.  Stephen loved books and shared an extensive library with his father.  He enjoyed learning from and doing rental property management, plus home and car, repair, especially with his Dad.   With parental guidance Stephen’s joie de vivre prompted him to experiment with home cooking and baking from scratch including a favorite, Russian Rye Bread.  He was proud to educate others about LPs at the RIT Imagineering Conference, and to LPs by showing off his leg fixators, info about EVC and seizures.  His legacy is one of profound kindness, inspiration, courage, depth of care for his family and friends.  He studied then guided medical professionals regarding his needed medical procedures: an example witnessed in the ER is how to efficiently relocate one or both his dislocated shoulders using a weight and massage technique noted also by Interns that could serve to benefit countless people beyond his short life of 26 years; our family lovingly names this the “Stephen Olesik technique”.

His passing will leave a gaping hole in many lives, but his legacy is indelible.

Stephen’s family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all the First Responders for their efforts and due diligent assistance.
