Elsie Hickey

Obituary of Elsie M. Hickey

Elsie M. Hickey, age 94, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2019 in Fairport, NY.  She was born in 1925 in Farmington, N.Y., where she grew up on the family dairy farm; the oldest of her five siblings.  After graduating from Victor High School, she met and married Leo F. Hickey, eventually having one son, Leo T. (Terry) Hickey, both of whom preceded her in death.
Elsie was a devoted, selfless wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her time with family above all else.  She would often host holiday gatherings, where her famous fruit salad and candied sweet potatoes were always a big hit.  Elsie had a giant soft spot in her heart for pets in need of a good home and throughout the years, she adopted a number of dogs and cats (and even a lizard). Her capacity to love those around her, both human and animal, was limitless.
Following the death of Elsie’s husband in 1970, she began an exciting new chapter in her life.  She learned to drive a car, got her license and began working for the first time.  She was a fixture at the Pittsford Farms Dairy for over thirty-five years, where she managed the front counter and was known affectionately by her many devoted customers as “Elsie the Cow Lady.”  Always ready with a smile, a story and an offer to carry their milk to the car, Elsie greeted everyone by name, including the many pets people brought by the dairy to see her on a weekly basis.
Elsie is survived by her Grandchildren Terry F. (Christine) Hickey and Christine E. (Menzo) Peck; Great grandchildren Rowan Hickey and Menzo F. Peck; Siblings Roberta Reubens, Wayne C. "Sonny" (Ruth) Power, Vernon (Dulcy) Power, Roger (Carol) Power, Joyce (Power) Hendricks; Many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
