Obituary of Calvin R. Bulman

Calvin (Cal) Bulman – 8/12/1924 – 7/15/2019

Cal passed away peacefully on July 15, 2019 in the Palliative Care at Highland Hospital.  His devoted wife of 75 years Rose predeceased him in 2017.

Cal was a devoted father to his two daughters, Gloria D. Dorward, who passed away in 2008, and his loving daughter Kathi Dvorkin who resides in Henrietta with her fiancé Richard Daniels.

Grandpa Cal leaves his loving grandchildren Debi Moore of Florida, Brandon Hampson (Donna English) of Long Island, Brice Dorward of Las Vegas, Kay (Tom) Vanater of Florida, Dale (Jeannine) Dorward of Washington, and Yvonne Owens (deceased) of Nebraska.  Great-Grandpa Cal also had 9 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

Cal is also survived by his brother Richard (Karen) Bulman of New York City and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his brother David H. Bulman of Albany, NY.

Dad was a strong believer in family, love and fellowship.  A proud volunteer fire fighter for over 60 years in the Henrietta Fire Co. #1.  His fraternal organizations were very important to him.  Amongst those were I.O.O.F. at Humboldt Lodge #138 for over 56 years, Teoronto Lodge, Germana Lodge #83, Mt. Hope Encampment, John Stabbins Canton and Pax Theta Rho Girls Club.  He reached the high rank of Noble Grand, District Deputy Grand Master, Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment of New York and Patriarch Militant Major of the Department Council of New York and President of the John C. Sable Memorial Heart Fund.  He was proud to be a member of each organization and loved his “brothers”.

Railroading was his absolute passion!  Cal was a recognized collector of all things railroad during the steam railroad era.  He was a current member of the National Railway Historical Society and The Rochester Genesee Valley Railroad.  If you knew Cal, you knew that he took every opportunity to travel by steam, attend shows, and collect lanterns, keys, bells – you name it he collected it.  He was a regular at the local flea markets and made friends everywhere he went.  One of his favorite guilty pleasures was chasing steam engines and listening to their whistles with his buddy Peter.  He had not one but two vast collections of railroad lanterns.  Oh how he loved to collect them!

Dad retired from Mobil Oil Corporation in 1984 after 30 years of dedicated employment.  He and my mom then began to travel.  They particularly enjoyed Hawaii and Scotland and even took the final cruise for the QE2 from London to NYC.  They took countless railroad trips which included their favorites to the Canadian Rockies and the Scandinavian countries.

The Bulman family has a multi-generational history with the town of Perinton. Dad was full of stories about his history and childhood adventures. You could listen to him for hours.

Dad will be missed by his family and friends forever!  We love you and will cherish our memories in our hearts always.
