We always referred to Dr. Emmens as a friend and our hero. I first met him at about 5 am at Strong Memorial Hospital where he just performed surgery on our son who was then less than 24 hours old (now a successful hospital executive in Pittsburgh). I guess as surgeries, go, this one was relatively routine, (if intestinal surgery on a newborn can be considered routine). We ran into him over the years either in the halls of Strong or at a Bills game proudly wearing a Vikings' jacket. You were the best Dr. Emmens. You will always be a friend and a hero to me and my wife Margy. Safe travels sir. Jim Karls

I had the honor of working with Dr.Emmons over many years in the NICU at Strong. He was skilled, respectful, patient, Above all, he LISTENED to the bedside providers(nurses) and learned from their particular expertise. He will always be in my wonderful NICU memories.

Your husband/father/grandfather was instrumental in saving my son, David Guild's life when he was in fifth grade. He had hemolytic streptococcal pneumonia and was hospitalized for 6 weeks starting on Christmas Eve. Dr. Emmens inserted a chest tube into Dave. He fought tirelessly for him. He would not take the word of the X ray people that Dave needed the tube. He went down to ultrasound with Dave to redo tests to make sure he needed it because he knew from experience how painful it was. He was kind and compassionate. My husband and I pray you feel God's comforting presence during this difficult time. Thank you for sharing Dr. Emmens with us and the whole Rochester community.
