Julianna Hart

Obituary of Julianna Hart

Peacefully passed on September 1, 2019.  She was a loving wife and mother.  Pre-deceased by her parents, brother and three sisters in Japan.  Survived by her husband of 60 years, Roger W. Hart, daughter Nita Kieser (Jan) of Phoenix, AZ, and several nieces in Japan.  Chiyoko was orphaned at an early age and grew up at her uncle's house, studying classical Japanese arts and ceremonies.  She studied fashion design and earned a degree in "Long Gown", which she later used when employed by a U.S. Army General's wife as a dressmaker.  After marrying her husband, Roger, they continued to live in Japan until 1964, when the family moved to Rochester, NY.  Julianna became a U.S. citizen soon after that and continued to be involved in dressmaking.  In 1970 she won a state contest in Georgia for the design of a dress and coat, appearing in an Atlanta newspaper.  She also enjoyed travelling and living in different locales and became friends with a store owner in Florence, Italy, teaching her English (with a Japanese accent) in exchange for learning to speak Italian. Julianna's hobbies and interests included sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and flower arrangement.  She was a member of the Rochester International Japanese United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, consider a gift to RIJUMC, 1900 Westfall Rd, Rochester, NY 14618 or to a favorite charity. Private Interment. A celebration of her life will be held on a later date.  To share a memory or condolence please visit: www.miller1889.com.
