Mary Slough

Obituary of Mary A. Slough

Mary A. Slough (Mueller)

Passed away peacefully on November 7, 2019 at age 72.  She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Slough; parents, Albert & Martha Mueller; brothers, Raymond & David Mueller.  She is survived by her daughters, Theresa (Damon Coleman) Larison; Laura (Damien Smith) Pieters; granddaughters, Brittany & Brooke Pieters; sisters, Marty (Bud) Plageman, Joan (Will) Vetter, Alice (Marc) Menne; many nieces, nephews, dear friends and her many colleagues.

Mary worked hard and played harder, living life to its fullest! Feisty and tenacious! She was firm in her beliefs and was never afraid to share them with others.  She surrounded herself with her family and friends where her smile and laughter were contagious! She was generous with her time and her love to the causes she believed in! As an avid dancer she knew how to light up the dance floor and was known to dance into the wee hours of the morning.  She was known for making the BEST peanut brittle ever for Christmas and shared the family recipe with only a select sacred few.  If you ever went to have a drink with her, her order was always the same:  Captain Morgan and Coke. She was deeply committed to her politics and made sure that her vote counted in this year’s primaries!  She was a friend and sounding board to so many!

Mary spent most of her career in academia, initially at RIT and then, starting in 1997, at the University of Rochester at the Clinical Trials Coordination Center in the Center for Health and Technology where she worked as an administrator advancing the clinical research agenda of the Parkinson and Huntington Study Groups. She worked tirelessly and passionately supporting those research endeavors up until her passing.
