Andrew Schantz

Obituary of Andrew Earl Schantz

Andrew (Andy) Earl Schantz of Henrietta NY, formerly of Lowville, NY died peacefully on March 14, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones.  He was 85 years old.  He is survived by: his loving wife of 60 years, Rita (Basile); his six children and their spouses, Mary Camille and Joseph Bardi (Manhattan), Michael and Tammy (West Henrietta), Anne and Craig Hoffman (Rochester), Richard and Paula (Ashburn), Andrew and Michelle (Rochester) and John and Frances (Clifton Park); his 16 beloved grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The son of the late C. Earl and Gladys A. (Kotary) Schantz and the youngest of four; his sisters, Betty Kobilak, Jean Rhone and Helen all predeceased him.

An alum of Lowville Academy and the Rochester Institute of Technology, he also served in the Unites States Army before returning to Lowville where he worked for the Schantz Bros. for many years.  He met his wife in Brantingham, NY and they lived in Lowville until the late 1960’s. They then moved to Henrietta, NY where he began his 25 year career with Mobil Oil.  A daily communicant, Andy’s love of his family was second only to his deep devotion to his faith. He enjoyed entertaining others and throughout his life he could be found telling a joke, singing or playing the trumpet, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He taught them all to enjoy life and each other in simple activities like gardening. One of his favorites was spending time with the children and grandchildren at Brantingham Lake. He had a nickname for everyone. Until very recently he was a lector and sang with the Resurrection Choir for his parish, St. Marianne Cope.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Church, 6105 Rush Lima Rd in Rush on Wednesday, March 18, at 11 o’clock in the morning. Interment Ascension Garden. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the charity of your choice in Andy’s name.
