Obituary of Clare B. Gerber
Clare Beatrice Duffin Gerber (77), born September 24th, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA, died peacefully on March 19th, 2020 at her home in Penfield, New York.
Raised just outside of Philadelphia, she went to West Catholic High School and later received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Empire State College. In 1966 she met and married her husband of 54 years, Joseph Gerber. They soon moved to their home in Penfield, NY where Clare dedicated herself to raising her children and serving her community. Her community roles included: coordinator of St. Joseph’s CCD program, member of parish council and prayer group, Girl Scout Troop leader, among many other things. Of her many hobbies she was a talented seamstress who frequently crafted outfits like works of art.
A first-generation American and growing up in a traditional Irish family, she had a deep abiding appreciation for her ancestral history and passed that passion on to her children through songs and stories. Growing up Gerber meant good food, singing, and storying telling at all hours. It was fitting then that she was able to make several memorable trips to Ireland to explore her heritage and visit her remaining family there. Clare was adored by her family and will be sorely missed.
Clare is survived by her husband Joe, five children (Bernadette (Neal), Kimberly (Chris), Joseph (Kim), Mary (Jeff), and John (Francesca)), four siblings and eleven grandchildren. She joins her grandson Joey up in Heaven. A private service will be held on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital DONATE ONLINE.
