Larry, where to begin. We met in Terre Haute when I was transferred to work in the plant back in 1986. I was young, inexperienced and idealistic...kind of like a wild dog on a greased floor. I needed a mentor and I needed someone to help harness all that energy and get it going in the right direction. God put me in your path and I am forever grateful. We were two similar spirits...only you had a ton...TON...more experience and wisdom than I did. A friendship was forged that to this day brings a smile of gratitude and respect. We enjoyed our time playing pool, drinking bourbon and eating Dinty Moore stew...and you welcomed my "best friend" Hombre'...into your home. You even went and bought him his own bowls to keep at your home. I learned the ability to control my tongue and show "silent" respect when in doubt or disagreement. I learned how to curb my temper and channel it more constructively. I even learned some fundamental mechanical skills...skills that would later help me immensely in my career. We both met our spouses at Terre Haute, ironically at the same plant. While it created more than a little gossip and "haters" you helped me through that. And at my wedding you were there encouraging me forward. You taught me the "art" of being a gentleman. Years passed and we stayed in touch...albeit infrequently...however, the test of a true friendship is you can always pick up right where you left...and that was our friendship. Never stressed, never strained. It was comfortable. As fate has an interesting way of working we were united once again in work at Joplin, MO. We were in desperate need of help...experienced, even-tempered, meticulous and skillful help. Buddy, man did you come through. I cannot thank you enough for what you did and more importantly how you did it. We both knew the best thing...BEST...ever to happen to us were our wives. Two lovely ladies who always stood by us through our crazy life. I will always respect how family came first...you always put family ahead...Eric was the center of your life. I read his tribute and from the small boy I knew in Terre Haute to the man he has become I'd say you once again did a great job. I will miss our cup of coffee in the morning just chewing the fat. I'll miss your gentle nudge and calm voice saying "have ya thought about this?" I'll miss a glass of good bourbon and water after the end of a long day. I will miss the random phone call and catching up on life and the card at Christmas. Cannot help but think of that song by Vince Gill..."Go Rest High Upon That Mountain...son your work on earth is through." Love you. Thank you.

Don and I were so very sorry to hear of Larry’s sudden death. We were lucky enough to call him both neighbor and friend. He was always the consummate southern gentleman in everything we saw him do. We loved to see Larry walk Dakota through our woods and he would stop so we could pet him as much as we wanted. We also think of the times we got together and had fun making s’mores or sharing deserts at holidays. Although Larry achieved considerable success in his work career, he was always down to earth with us, and I imagine it was this quality that made him so successful in management. We are so sorry that we missed the last three years of his life, but we were always there in spirit if not in body. May he rest in eternal peace and may all the outstanding memories he and Barbara created, help through this journey.
