I was lucky to be picked by Kathy, Hugh and Laura to stay with them from the summer of 1997 until the summer of 1998 as an international exchange student while I was in grade 11, 16 years old. The first picture below was taken in October of 1997, shortly before Halloween, when my parents and my brother came to visit. Kathy, Hugh and Laura truly became family and we stayed in touch after I left for Germany in 1998. My brother stayed with Kathy and Hugh 2 years later as an exchange student as well. Kathy and Hugh got to visit Germany in August of 2018 and got to know my wife and three kids. Kathy was one of the most kind and caring people that I have ever met, she's had a tremendous positive impact on my life and I loved her very much.

Kathy, oh yes, excellent director of community plays, twice for me and as real as they get. She shared her passion of theater, understanding of us ‘wanna be’ actors and yes, to the more seasoned actors. Brava, Kathy, for shining your joy and light on us. She was excellent with assisting us with knowing the right costume too.
Dave, may your cherished and heartfelt love With Kathy, be gently hugged and nourished with “let me entertain you” and grateful you both loved theater and you and Kathy could sing “...we’re gonna do it together.”

I came to know Kathy thru our play The Life of Walter Welker!!!! Loved Kathy instantly - you couldn't not like her! I learned as time went by how funny she was. We went out to lunch and honestly - she had me laughing so hard my face hurt and told her she had to stop!!!! I have tried to remember the stories and for the life of me can't remember how they went! Lots of good stuff about Dansville. Kathy was a blessing to my life and I'm sooooooooo glad I got the chance to meet her! She will be so missed! Be with God, Kathy!!!!!

Dear Dave & Laura,
We offer our deepest sympathies on the passing of your mother. I remember Kathy for her wonderful sense of humor, no one could tell a story like she could and have the entire room laughing; her strong spirit and her very caring nature. May your memories and her love sustain you at this most difficult time.
Sincerely,
Peg Young and Mike Lamark

Dear David and Laura,
Of course I knew your Mom through the Young connection, when you would visit the house on Wetmore Park with your parents, but I think I got to know her much better during the 4 years I was living in Geneseo and was a frequent guest at the Dansville house. Seeing Marie Charbonneau's message reminds me of the time Kathy,in her funny irreverent way, introduced Marie to me as "Mrs. Big." Kathy's friendship even extended to a couple of attempts at match-making for me, alas unsuccessful. Over the years since leaving Geneseo, I have not seen your Mom, though your uncle John would give me updates from time to time. Kathy was truly one of a kind and I have always had fond memories of her. My sincere condolences and best wishes to you and the rest of the family.

I was just telling Sarah how Nana loved to have dinner parties and have people over for meals. I remember one dinner party she planned where there was a menu to choose your food, but you didn’t know what your where ordering, even the silverware was on the menu. I remember being in the kitchen, as I was a server, and laughing so hard with her because some people ordered food and no utensils and others only ordered their utensils. Mom always made sure everyone was laughing and fed.

David and Laura,
We are so sorry for your loss. Al and I have fond memories of Kathy and our arrival in Dansville. She made us feel very much at home. I was away and she invited Al for dinner. Kathy was serving duck and did not realize that Al wouldn't go near duck. I guess right when he had to face the music and tell her that he couldn't eat duck he swatted a fly and it dropped into his plate saving him. Kathy just loved to tell that story and I remember her great laugh when she would recall that evening. She would say that she served Al duck with fly. Over the years I am saddened to say we have lost touch with Kathy as we have with many or our friends from Dansville. We do have very special memories of Kathy and our Dansville home and friends. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Fondly, Al and Marie Charbonneau
