Obituary of Ronald Fenby
On January 29, 2011 at age 87. Ron was predeceased by his beloved wife of 42 years, Gladys. He is survived by his loving family, daughters & sons-in-law, Mary-Ellen (William) Laffin, Nancy (William) Chatterton & Laurie (William) Fenby-Earle; adoring granddaughter, Elizabeth Chatterton; grandchildren, Mark Chatterton, Melanie (Lance) Hilyard, Max Earle & 5 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews, both in the U.S. & in England; He also leaves behind sister-in-law, Barbara Fenby; extended family members, Janice Mandrino; godson, Jim Squier & special companion, Bernice Earle.
As a member of "The Greatest Generation" Ron proudly served during
WWII in the British Merchant Marine, carrying troops into battle at Dunkirk & landing on Juno Beach in Normandy on D-Day. He has always loved the sea & traveled to all parts of the globe, those stories are among his best. After retiring in 1989, from the Traffic Engineering Department of Monroe County, he was able to spend more time with his grandchildren & pursue his other interests of golf, soccer, horseracing & local politics.
Our family gratefully acknowledges the dedicated staff at Seabury Woods. Their care and genuine affection for our father allowed him to live with dignity as his memory faded.
Honoring Ron's wishes, there will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be celebrated in the Chapel at Miller Funeral Homes (3325 Winton Rd. So.) on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 2 PM. Interment private.
"Softly the leaves of memory fall, but for as long as there are memories,
he will live in our hearts"
