Great families do not happen on accident. I am sure that you are so proud of the way that yours is handling this challenging time of both celebrating your life and mourning the loss of having you here everyday. The way that everyone has taken care of each other has truly been inspiring and is a direct reflection of the strength, love, and leadership that you have shown them your entire life. It was an honor and privilege to be with your family this week and I can only hope that I offered some small comfort in exchange for the warmth and love they have show me. Thank you for welcoming me into your family and making me feel wanted- I will never be able to repay that, but I hope that I will be able to show that same kindness to others in your honor. Thank you for Thomas- he is a great man and didn't get that way on his own. And finally, thank you for your family that has been nothing short of spectacular. You will live forever through the love of your family and the perpetuation of your loving character.

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of Tom. I had the privelege to be the instructor for Tom in the Dale Carnegie course in 2005. Tom was what Quintillian called "A good person, skilled in speaking". It was what we asked the class to try to be instead of a great presenter. That was Tom-steady, committed, didn't miss any classes. It was an honor to get to know him.

I remember while I was working with Tom how fortunate I was to be there at that time. He was one of those people where everybody wanted Schottmiller at their store. Yes, it's true that Tom was a quietly effective leader and brought with him experience and skills in a variety of areas. But ultimately, you realized that you really wanted to work with him, just because of the person that he was.
I always admired his balance between family and work, and although he was good at what he did, he had a disarming quality that always put people at ease. I can tell you that if anybody had a problem, they would want to go to Tom, moreso than myself or anybody else who was there.
Tom never got upset. He gave everybody a fair chance. And, I can't help but think about all the people that he helped along the way in any of the different endeavors he did in his life time.
But in the end what I enjoyed most, were the 200 or so times that we would have lunch or dinner together. Those were the times when we could talk about vacations, or whatever was going on at home... or share our passions for junk food. And definately not the least of his qualities was a great, fairly sarcastic sense of humor. I just feel rewarded that I was there for a part of that. Thanks Tom. You are missed.

Our prayers are with you, and hope that you can celebrate all that is his life, today and tomorrow... one of my favorite quotes that was given to me when I lost my Mom is as follows:
"I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!"
"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: 'Here she comes!"
