Obituary of Bernice A. Abbott

Bernice A. Abbott, March 29, 2011 at the Episcopal Church Home in Rochester, NY at the age of 96. She is survived by her son David of West Henrietta, NY, a cousin and sister-in-law in Amsterdam, NY, a nephew in Webster, NY and a niece in Ballston Spa, NY. Bernice was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School (Class of 1932) and worked in Amsterdam, NY for Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co. and Mohawk Carpet Mills. For Many years, she was a member of the Mohawk Mixed Chorus. During WWII, the 120 member chorus performed at events to support the War Bond effort. In 1949, Bernice traveled with the chorus to New York City and appeared on the live Christmas concert broadcast of the Roberta Quinlan TV program ("Mohawk Showroom") and produced an album of records at the RCA Victor's recording studio. Interment will be arranged at a later date for Bernice and her brother-in-law (Leo Sherrell of Webster, NY) at Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill. Memorial contributions in her name can be made to St. Ann's Episcopal Church of Amsterdam, NY or Montgomery County, Office of the Aging. Home Amsterdam, NY Birthplace Amsterdam, NY
