Obituary of Fayne Zerilda Doering
Doering, Fayne (Gardner)
Brighton: Fayne Zerilda (Gardner) Doering, 81, died gently on August 15, 2011, in the Jewish Home of Rochester, NY. She and Paul F. Doering had been married for 48 years.
Born in Rochester on June 4, 1930, to Lois and Earle Ainsworth Gardner, Fayne attended Rochester schools, graduating from John Marshall HS. She earned her teaching degree from the University of Buffalo and Brockport State College. For 25 years she taught grades 1 - 5 and Creative Writing in Greece, NY. She retired in 1985.
Fayne is survived by Paul and by her cousin Mildred Strauss of Summerfield, FL, and Mildred's son Wayne Strauss of Rochester. Fayne had no children - if you don't count the hundreds she helped launch into life.
Fayne was a strong supporter of public broadcasting's WXXI and of Pet Pride of NY, committing time and funds to both for many years. In retirement Fayne and Paul explored the US, the UK, Europe and Thailand until Parkinson's Disease inhibited her mobility.
Fayne's family has multi-generational roots in the Thousand Islands region of the US-Canadian border. Her great-grandfather Laban Ainsworth, a judge and surveyor in Watertown, NY, laid out the lots in the community of Fineview on Wellesley Island. His reward was his choice of any two. His 1870's octagonal cottage, still in the family, occupies one of them.
Fayne's ashes will be interred in the Gardner plot within the island's Riverview Cementery.
She wished that remembrances might be expressed through donations to Pet Pride of NY, 7731 State Rt 251, Victor, NY 14564. It is a no-kill shelter for cats.
Family and friends are invited to call at Miller Funeral Homes, Inc. (3325 Winton Rd. So.) on WEDNESDAY (8/24/11) from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. A celebration of Fayne's life will be held in the Interfaith Chapel at Miller Funeral Homes on THURSDAY (8/25/11) at 2:00 PM.
