Barbara, Debbie, Dan, Ben, Daniel, Anna and Julia,
There are many ways to walk in the world. Irv was an old soul who gave to all and was curious about everything. Irv blessed my life with dry and gentle humor, an expertise on most subjects I cared to explore and that creative mind that never stopped. I miss his frequent email forwardings from the New York Times. I will be less informed. He was always a teacher, one who was a bit further down the path than the rest of us, saying come over here, look at this, isn't that interesting. He was a man of letters, a thinker and a doer. He lived for a challenge and found them in the pursuit of the best way to feed the birds and squirrels as well as mentoring many in bringing the magic of personal photography to the world. Irv, we miss you. The world is a sadder place without you. We will go on and we will heal. You changed our lives. Thank you.

Deb, Dan, Julia & Anna,-Please know that all of us at 101 Lopes Ave continue to have you in our thoughts and prayers.
I was just re-reading Irv's wonderfully written bio and each time I read it, some new memories come back. A couple lines in particular stood out tonight and put a big smile on my face. "His attention to detail is legendary. He was a perfectionist who could fix anything and believed that anything worth doing was worth doing right – and more right, and then righter still." I had the pleasure and honor of not only meeting Irv many years ago during one of his visits to VT, but also got to spend a week hanging out with him in my garage during that week, all day long, learning how to use ALL my new wood shop tools. Upon first meeting Irv I had mentioned my interest in learning how to build furniture and that I had all these new tools that I didn't really know how to use yet. Needless to say, I gained an instant friend and a perfectionist teacher who taught me not only how to use my tools, but how to use them the "right way." OMG, I learned more in that week about my tools and how to use them than I ever would have imagined I could. And I had fun! You should see my "dovetail" cuts!! Before Irv left to go back home, he showed up at my house to say so long and had with him a gift for me that he had made/created, (an accessory for my compound miter saw), out of some pieces of pipe and other materials he found laying around. Talk about a genius. I've since sold all my shop tools. Well, not all. I still have my compound miter saw with the custom made for me accessory made by my friend and teacher Irv. I will treasure that gift and the time I had with Irv forever. Thanks for sharing him with me. ox

To Irv's Family
I heartfully wish to express my sincere sympathy to you on the loss of your beloved father. He was a genius for designing software tech and troubleshooting for computer. He was always motivated in his work, even in his late age and with high energy and willing to help me solve the problems with computer software, etc. I was always happy to see him when I needed him at Kodak and Gretag.
Sincerely,
Daniel Donolli

A familiar verse describes well our loss: "God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered 'come to me.' With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."
The best was indeed taken.
Love, Carl, Kathy, Jerry and Duke

Oh Deb, I am very sorry to read this news. It seems like Dan was just telling us your Dad was on his way via the Adirondacks for a visit to Vermont. I know that Dan will miss his relationship with your Dad. It really is so hard to have your family shrink as ours have these past several years. So, Deb, here’s a hug for you and your sister as well as the rest of the family.
Hugs and love from Kathy

Deb, Barbara and the rest of your wonderful family,
Our prayers and happy memories are with you. I met your Dad twice, and both times were so delightful, as his kindness shined through like a magnet. As Barbara may remember, she gave me his steak knives as a gift because she knew I was a collector of cool stuff. Those knives are still in our possesion, so we can remember him always.

Barbara -- words of remembrance and comfort for your family from the annual memorial services you led for Hospice of Louisville, KY.
"When We Remember Them," by Simcha Kling
At the rising of the sun and at its going down we remember them.
AT THE BLOWING OF THE WIND AND THE CHILL OF WINTER WE REMEMBER THEM.
At the opening of the buds and the rebirth of spring we remember them.
AT THE BLUENESS OF THE SKIES AND IN THE WARMTH OF SUMMER WE REMEMBER THEM.
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn we remember them.
AT THE BEGINNING OF THE
YEAR AND WHEN IT ENDS WE REMEMBER THEM.
As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.
WHEN WE ARE WEARY AND IN NEED OF STRENGTH WE REMEMBER THEM.
When we are lost and sick at heart we remember them.
WHEN WE HAVE JOY WE CRAVE TO SHARE WE REMEMBER THEM.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make we remember them.
WHEN WE HAVE ACHIEVEMENTS THAT ARE BASED ON THEIRS WE REMEMBER THEM.
AS LONG AS WE LIVE, THEY TOO WILL LIVE;
FOR THEY ARE NOW A PART OF US, AS WE REMEMBER THEM.

Miss Me But Let Me Go
Author: Anonymous
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little-but not too long
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me-but let me go
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home
When you are lonely and sick of heartGo to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me but let me go.

Hi Deb and Barbara, Russ, David and I are so sorry to hear about your Dad. I only met him a few times but loved his wry sense of humor and the fact that he made me feel instantly comfortable. I somehow always found myself moving toward him. He was just a really nice and interesting guy, with a keen intelligence softened by his easy manner. Call if you'd like to talk, and let me know if there's anything we can do. Love to you all, Barbara
