Obituary of Jane I. Bartholomew

Jane I. Bartholomew Jane I. Bartholomew, age 87, died Saturday, August 21, 2010. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Rebecca James and George W. Bartholomew, and a brother, Robert O. Bartholomew. She is survived by her brother, Ralph J. Bartholomew; her niece Becky (Kent) Marsten; her great-nephew, Jeremy Hawkins; and a circle of loving friends. Jane was a 1942 graduate of RBI and worked for Duncan Audio Visual. She soon joined several others in buying the business, and in 1976, she bought out her partners and became sole owner and president. While in her business, she began a reading program for children which she marketed to schools in the western New York counties. She retired in 1985. She was an active member of Zonta, a business organization for women, and was at one time president of the local Rochester chapter. She is remembered by the chapter as one who gave countless hours for the organization as an active member, officer, and volunteer. The chapter honored her by presenting her with the 1989 Heart Award. She also volunteered for other community projects, including the Arthritis Foundation. She enjoyed reading and knitting, but her greatest pleasure in recent years was playing cards and visiting with her friends at the Legacy at Cranberry Landing. Jane’s interment will be held privately at Riverside Cemetery.
