To John DelMonte & Family
John, I was very saddened by your Dad's passing and I hope you remember me from earlier days. I thought I would pass on these memories of your Dad and I from 1963 to 1981. When I retired from B& and formed ESG Associates. As an engineer at B&L in 1963 I got to know your Dad when he had done one of his many industrial endeavors on the 2nd floor of the corner bilding in East Rochester - corner of Main and Commercial Street. We were just developing a lab chart recorder which required micro miniature solder or welding. Your Dad had this manufacturing capability & I gave him the B&L contract to do our module - which was the heart of the Lab Recorder.
B&L had been leasing this faciity for a few years before my move of the ASD Division to Linden Ave in 1968. In late 1968/early 1969 your Dad approached me to see if I could make happen the purchase of Linden Avenue so he would have more liquidity to start the concrete paneled hotel room construction industry. The purchase price of $1,620 had been agreed upon by your Dad and the B&L financial people years before when B&L signed the lease. I helped make it happen for your Dad and subsequentially added a warehouse to the back of the building and B&L's ASD Division took off.
In 1970, houston Instruments wanted to buy our Lab Recorder line...we instead bought all of Houston Instruments and moved the Houston facility to Austin, TX.
We got out of that city by moving to a better souce of educated employees. Our B&L purchase of Linden Ave from your Dad spurred a major industrial move and shift at B&L's ASD division that truly enhanced your Dad's growth and ours. Your Dad and I had many contacts even after my retirement in '81 at age 50 as I started up my own company ESG Associates.
* As a side note - when your Dad and I toured his mini solder/weld area on the 2nd floor of Main and Commercial, we went down to the ground floor to a restaurant located in the same building to eat lunch. We had a classy, beautiful lady escort us to a table (I had two engineers with me). We sat down and I remarked to your Dad "No wonder you like eating here. She (I thought was the hostess) is certainly easy on the eyes...to which your Dad laughed and said "so you like my wife" - I said no more!
One other thought, John, my daughter Staci Gallmeyer managed the Marriott Courtyard in Penfield. She was there when the Ryder Cup was in torn and got many complments and autographs during that tournament, with notes of praise from Paul Azinger and Johnny Miller...including your Dad.
Afer marriage to Jeff Johnson, she moved to Augusta GA, was hired by Augusta National Human Resources group and was in charge of organizing and running the special parties (Christmas celebrity, etc.) functions for often more than 300 people. Her husband and she have parted company after more than 15 years and she is considering moving back to Rochester with her two children to be with us (Beth and I) and brother Scott and family and is exploring potential job opportunities.
We moved to our Florida home in 2002and then to Augusta in 2006 before coming back home to the Pittsford/Fairport area in late 2011. So much has changed for the better I think and when I saw the obit of your Dad I just needed to write a nice tribute of our experiences together those many years ago.
Again, we are so saddened by your Dad's passing. I know you and your family can regale in yur Dad's myriad of accomlismnets and contributions in his life
God Bless
