Obituary of Robert Carlton Worthy
Robert Carlton Worthy, 94, of Stuart, Florida (summer resident at Proctor, Minnesota) died peacefully of natural causes on July 1, 2012 at Tofte, MN while on vacation. Bob was born in Rochester, New York on November 17, 1917 to Carl Mortimer Worthy and Anna Erna Kaiser, who preceded him in death, as well as his wife, Marian Buyck Worthy and his second wife, Betty Hudson Worthy.
Bob is survived by his wife, Judith Endresen-Worthy of Stuart, Florida (summer resident at Proctor, Minnesota) ; son, William R. Worthy of Beaufort, South Carolina; daughter, Gail Marie Burroughs, son-in-law, Randy Burroughs, and grandson, Robert Burroughs of Maumelle, Arkansas, granddaughter, Michelle Burroughs of Sacramento, California, and cousin, Hazel Esch of Cheektawaga, New York plus many relatives and friends.
Bob was Executive Vice President of the Community Savings Bank of Rochester, New York, in charge of the Mortgage Department. He graduated from the Rochester Business Institute in Rochester, NY, Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers’ University, and numerous banking classes at the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Banking. Bob was President of the Rochester chapter of the American Institute of Banking. He was a member of the Community Chest, Red Cross YMCA, Rochester Association for United Nations, Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Rochester Civic Music Association, Rochester Home Builders, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8816, Real Estate Board of Rochester, Society of Residential Appraisers, Rochester Area Council of Churches, Savings Bank Life Insurance Council and a Trustee and Elder at Pittsford Presbyterian Church.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Miller Funeral Home, 3325 Winton Road, Rochester, New York at 11 AM. Burial will follow at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, New York. A memorial service will be held at Peace Presbyterian Church in Stuart, Florida at 11:30 AM on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
Bob was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army/Air Force from October 15, 1942 until February 4, 1946. He served in California, Hawaii and Guam. He was a Technical Sergeant in the 35th Statistical Control Unit in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.
Bob enjoyed music and played the violin and guitar as a youth. He loved to dance, bowl, cross-country ski, play cards and games and enjoyed going to concerts and listening to music. He also enjoyed golfing and had been a member of Monroe Golf Club in Rochester and Miles Grant Country Club in Stuart. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church USA for many years and a charter member of Peace Presbyterian Church in Stuart, Florida.
