I Was a former Student of Ms. Douyon. The year I was to have her as my teacher, she had major surgery and I couldn't benefit much from her teaching that year. However, I remember her as being smart, patient, caring. Something that has comforted me while grieving is knowing that I have the hope of seeing my loved ones again. John 5:28 says that "those in the memorial tombs will hear [Jesus'] voice and come out." Also, 1Corinthians 15:26 says that "the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing." God's original purpose was never for humans to get sick and die. Instead, He views death as an enemy and yearns to destroy it; and He will. I truly hope your family finds comfort during this grievous time.

Margarette was assigned to be my mentor teacher my first year of teaching science in the RCSD at SOTA. The guidance she gave me helped to make me the teacher that I am today. She was very thorough in her observations of my teaching; she was able to tell me what I needed to improve and what I did best. She also expected to see an improvement the next time that she visited my class, which I made sure that I had improved because I did not want to let her down. I was very fortunate to have a mentor teacher as passionate as her. Over the years, we'd run into each other at meetings, teaching summer school, etc. and talk about our families, but I never really got a chance to tell her thank you for the hard work that she put in to making me a good teacher. I would not have survived my first year of teaching without her. I will miss you Margarette, RIP. The RCSD has loss a very precious gem...

Dear Douyon Family,
Margarette was a colleague and dear friend of mine. We would often talk about school, teaching and our students. Whenever I wanted to find out what was going on at SOTA she seemed to know. She taught both of our children chemistry. Our daughter Gerlinde's middle name is Margarette, which was also my mother's name. Our son Martin was truly inspired by her. She is the prime reason that Martin is majoring in chemical engineering in college. He would refer to her affectionantely as "Mama Douyon" and would visit her whenever he came back in town. He was so happy when he once was a guest lecturer in his AP chemistry class! Margarette was a great influence on Martin and she will always be his most favorite teacher. We were truely saddened when we heard that she had passed and we will miss her. We love you. RIP The Wolf family

I remember Ms. Douyon as firm but fair. Even after passing her class successfully i continued every year in the summer right before school would resume from summer break helping her get ready and we would just talk about my dreams and goals. She really had faith in all her students, she will be missed but I have peace knowing she is in a better place.

Although I never taught at the same school as Margarette, I came to know her through many PD's and through her association with the Coalition for Justice in Education. I admired her commitment to excellence in teaching, her warmth, sense of humor, and courage to always speak the truth and say what was in her heart. I will greatly miss her energy and spirit.

I had the pleasure of working with Margarette at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in the 1980's and School of the Arts until my retirement about 3 years ago. I remember her spirit, her willingness to speak out for the good of her students and education in general. She never went along with the status quo. She stood out as a fantastic science teacher. The RCSD has lost one of the best.

Margarette never stopped believing in the power of education to transform a life and bring needed change to the world. She was an incredible role model, especially to her female students. As one of her colleagues what I most admired and benefited from was her fearlessness. Margarette refused to stay silent and stop asking questions when policy decisions that would adversely affect curriculum and students were being made. She voluntarily put herself into the fray to be that brave, intelligent voice for students, teachers, and the wider school community.
In these trying times for education and educators, Margarette will be greatly missed.

Ms. Douyon was one of the tougher teachers at SOTA, but she was still extremely warm and I think people really left her class having learned something. She was extremely supportive and encouraged students to get excited about science through her passion for it. She will be missed.

Ms. Douyon made me appreciate Chemistry and taught me that learning well doesn't come easy. I never appreciated science until I had her as a teacher. It was a number of years ago, but will always remember the science and life lessons she taught. May she RIP and you find comfort in her everlasting memory.
