Obituary of Mavis Mary Beers

Mavis died April 13, 2014. She was born October 31, 1924 in Brisbane, Australia to Thomas and Winifred (Hickman) Bennie. Predeceased by her husband, Malcolm Austin Beers who she married April 14, 1945 in Brisbane, Australia while Malcolm was stationed there during WWII. Then in May 1946 traveled to America with 800 other war brides on the SS Mariposa. She is also predeceased by her siblings, Nancy, Thomas and Joyce Castree. She is survived by her children, M. Douglas (Pat) Beers of Atlanta, GA, Pierre (Sondra) Bierre of Pleasanton CA, Ken (Sandra Salway) Beers of Henrietta NY; grandchildren Daniel Malerk, Dana Beers, Nancy Beers, Jackie Bierre and Bill Beers; nieces, Brenda MacMillan, Edwina Orr, Donna Clarkson and their spouses and children still in Australia. She is mourned by her foreign exchange “son” Vedat Kural (Tangul Gucenmez Kural) of Istanbul, Turkey, and their daughter Gizem Kural of Toronto, Canada. Mavis graduated from State commercial high school in Brisbane, Australia in 1939. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of Aldersgate UMC (Greece NY) she was the Church Secretary, in the Choir, President of UM Women, she served the Rochester Methodist Home for 10 yrs. on the Women’s Council (2 yrs. as Vice Pres.), member of Gulf Cove UMC of Englewood, FL active in the choir and UM Women. She was a member of the Lemon Bay Garden Club (FL) and Membership Chair for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed tennis and card games. No Calling hours.
