Obituary of Rada Rae Haas
on January 27, 2015 at home with her daughters by her side.
Born October 1, 1932, in Peterborough, New York, the youngest of fourteen children, to Esther Ruth and Joseph David Stratton, she attended the Morrisville Eaton School where she graduated in 1951. She worked as a waitress while raising her young family, eventually returning to school to study cosmetology and open her own salon.
Rada was a woman of many talents; a seamstress, an excellent cook, baker, carpenter and interior designer. She and her second husband built the home that they raised their five children in and Rada did much of the carpentry, woodworking, painting and wall papering herself. She took great delight in designing each room in her home. Rada put this talent to good use when she rejoined the workforce in her early fifties after her children had all left home. She worked in the custom drapery department at JC Penney in Sangertown Square for many years and loved traveling to people’s homes to help them create their own custom designs. During that time, she befriended many of her co-workers and clients; some became close friends.
Rada loved music, dancing and laughter and will be remembered by everyone who knew her for her quick wit, forthrightness, tenaciousness and uncompromising work ethic. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her four daughters Nancy Rae Snyder (John), Brenda Sue Taylor (James), Sandra Lee Haas (Cesar), Pamela Esther Haas, three grandchildren David Allen Chlad (Katie), Michael Ambrose Buschor, and Hope Anne Church as well as three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved son Gerald Lee Church.
Services will be held at 11 AM on SATURDAY, February 7, at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 3325 Winton Road South. She will be laid to rest at the Madison Village Cemetery in Madison, NY. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the reception at the Burgundy Basin Inn immediately following it, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Thanks to the team at Strong Memorial Hospital and Lifetime care for the caring and support they offered during this difficult time.
