Obituary of George Peter Reiss

Formerly of Rochester, NY George P. Reiss, 91, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 in Wake Forest, NC. George was born August17, 1925 to George C. and Madeline (Rubens) Reiss in Canadaigua, NY. He attended Aquinas Institute, Monroe Community College and Empire State College. He served in the Navy in WWII on the aircraft carrier, the Wasp. He began his long career on the Rochester Police Department attaining the rank of Police Captain before his retirement in 1983. George was actively involved in the VFW Post #307, American Legion Post #1182, DAV Chapter #15, 40 & 8 #111, the Police Locust Club, Rosewood Club, FBI National Academy Associates, Raleigh, NC Elks #736, ARPALER (Association Rochester Police Area Law Enforcement Retirees), Navy League, USS Wasp, the Moose Lodge # 1318. George is survived by daughter Alice Fisher (Steve), son Edward Reiss, daughter Elizabeth Siver (Mark), grandchildren Lisa Fisher, Jennifer Torralba (Dominic), Sarah Fisher, George R. Reiss, Shawn Reiss, Katie Ledwin (Eric), Mark D. Siver, Ashley Siver and great grandchildren David Ledwin and Emilie Ledwin. He is also survived by a brother Robert and numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by a son George E. Reiss; mother of his children, Lois Reiss; twin sister Elsie D'Angelo; sister Marjorie Wilson and son-in-law, Ronald J. Siver. Calling hours will be SATURDAY, February 18, 2017 from 1-3 PM at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services (3325 Winton Rd S). Funeral services will follow immediately in the Interfaith Chapel at the funeral home. Interment White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Association of Rochester Police & Area Law Enforcement Retirees Bereavement Program, 1425 Lexington Ave., Rochester, NY 14696-3133.
