My condolences for your loss. I worked "for'" and "with" John for quite a few years at DuPont. In addition , since retirement, we met twice annually at Plant Staff "reunions".
During our time together at DuPont,John inspired me to be a better employee.
Sincerely, Tony Rizzo

I am very sorry for your loss. I was one of John’s fellow DuPont employees. My first summer job there, in 1973, included emptying the wastebasket and vacuuming the floor in his office. As an 18-year-old, I was very impressed by John: Everyone respected him, and he was the only person I ever knew there who was addressed formally (everyone referred to him as “Mr. Ellenberger), he always wore a suit, and he traveled all over the world for work. He seemed quite stern and formal, but he always smiled and said hello when he saw me. I learned, firsthand, of his quiet thoughtfulness and kindness a few years later: He knew that I was a Chemistry major, and he thought that I should have a technical job for my last summer at DuPont, so he hired me himself, to work for one of the chemists who reported to him. I went on to work for DuPont for another 32 years, in part, due to John’s support and mentoring, and I have always been grateful to him.
With deep sympathy for all of John’s loved ones,
Marcia Berg

I would like to express heartfelt sympathies to the family of John and also Dody. My husband and I met John and Dody way back in 1975 when we started attending the GROS. I think they were both founders of the Orchid Society here in Rochester. Dody was my teacher for a year at the Museum, teaching me all about orchids...I fell in love with them and the passion has lasted all these years. I loved the stories Dody would tell about some of her mishaps when caring for them. Her interest began when John gave her, her first orchid after the birth of one of her children. We attended many lovely dinners with them after a display had been set up in preparation for our annual show. John always struck me as a very fine gentleman and it was a pleasure talking with him. I spent many hours visiting them at their greenhouse in Victor, exchanging stories of family and also sharing news of family through greeting cards during the Holidays. He will be missed as I did his wife, Dody. Carolyn and Dean
