Susan Guppy

Obituary of Susan H. Guppy

Susan H. Guppy died surrounded by her family on September 30, 2017 following a very brief illness. Susan was born on May 1, 1943 to Norman and Astrid Snow and raised in Framingham, MA. In 1965 she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, James Guppy. Together they created a beautiful life full of travel, family and friends. Susan and James raised their two daughters on Long Island for 25 years then retired to New Hampshire until following their children to Rochester 7 years ago. Family was Susan's greatest joy, she adored spending time with her grandchildren, playing games and baking with them. The family cottage of 35 years in Maine was her retreat and family gathering place. She was an avid sports fan, regularly attending high school sporting events for her own children, and in New Hampshire and Henrietta after her own children were grown. She was a crafter and a seamstress, often making her own clothes. She gifted her quilts, clothes and other creations to all of those in her life. She made time every week for Bingo. Church was an important part of her life. She held the position of Head Deacon, was an active member of the Women's Fellowship, a member of the choir and she volunteered at the church food bank. She spent her life for children. Raising them and teaching them. She spent her professional life working with children. First, as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher in Arizona, and later as a substitute teacher on Long Island. Susan is predeceased by her sister, Nancy Colcord and is survived by her husband of 52 years, James; her daughters, Holly Guppy and Heather (Joe) Gabriel and her grandchildren: James, Jackson, Jay, Hanna, and Tucker; and her brothers: Norman (Janet) Snow and Dexter (Debbie) Snow. She will be deeply and forever missed by her abundance of friends and family.
