I graduated with Helen from Penfield and attended Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital School of Nursing with her for a time. While poking around the Goodwill store in Webster some time ago, I was shocked to see a tiny ceramic lamp that we all carried lit with a small candle in our capping ceremony after the completion of our first year of Nursing School. I still have mine also, and was surprised to see that, although I don’t think Helen graduated with us, (did she transfer out before graduation? ), she had kept hers also for over 40 years! Those were some of the most important and difficult years of my life, and although Helen and I were not close, we all weathered those same storms together. I’m sorry to learn of her passing, as it appears that we had parallel lives with lots of nursing and family. The joys of long marriage , retirement, and adult children (and grandchildren) are lost to Helen, but perhaps I will savor those all the more knowing how precious they are. Gods comfort to all; a mother and wife are never forgotten.
