Mr. Reif was my social studies teachers at Eastridge High. I was class of 1977. I was a bit on the wild side and skipped out of school a lot, among other things. It was for this reason I failed social studies and the following year as a senior, 9th period had to repeat the class. Only this time it was with Mr. Reif. Well, needless to say I grew to respect him....he cut me some slack but not much. It turned out that he became one of my fondest memories of the teaching staff at Eastridge. I have thought of him many times thoughout the years. My deepest sympathy to his family. He was a great teacher and man. May God bless him and his loved ones. RIP Mr. Reif.

I am from the class of 1983. You have many teacher through HS, College, Grad School and Professional School. As recently as two months ago I talked about Herb. I went on as a Music Major, but make no mistake, Herb was the person who impacted me more than anyone throughout education
This is for you Herb:
Herb Cohen was the greatest and most influential teacher I had at EHS. Certainly not Jean Cronin. Today because of him, I still study the Constitution, not as an expert, but as a student. Experts seem to stop learning. Jefferson is where I find great wisdom in today when we face crisis of all kinds. From talking about work ethics, working on an oil rig, horrible job, but still putting 100% into it to questioning government, he remains a person I have always though about. His stories of going into the projects and looking at the housing, how trashed it was, but look st the cars, how nice they are showed how people behaved. As a Paramedic, I visited too many projects. He was right every time.
If Inhad known, even living in Philadelphia, I woukd have flown home for a final thank you. For a man who brought so much to me.
Thank you, and I know your still teaching today in a better place.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Me. Reid was a fun teacher even to those of us that did not enjoy history. I remember being out of school due to I’ll ess and coming back so far behind. He worked with me so I would not fail and let me take lots of open book tests just to catch up. May he Rest In Peace.

Mr Reif was my social studies teacher in High School and my seat was in front. I learned alot even though I didn't show it. One thing that has stuck with me all these years is when he told us "the average person will change careers at least 7 times in a lifetime". I've repeated that to my three kids too. He was certainly right.
There was also the time when he called on my friend behind me who had a mouth full of poprock candies. When she opened her mouth to say "yes" the candy came popping out of her mouth making noise. Of course we laughed for the entire class and he was very patient with us. A memory my friend and I still talk about.
May the good memories never fade. My condolences to all.

I had Mr. Reif for American Government as an Eastridge Senior, and also asked him to act as an advisor to the Student Government (a task he gladly accepted without pay). He was a great educator and coach. He will be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

I am so sad to hear this. Mr. Reif was my history teacher and he made my Junior year. My mom died when I was in 10th grade. I was very unfocused. He picked up on that and would make me laugh and actually enjoy his class. He would pick up on the sadness when no one else did. I remember he called me Whitey one day (my last name was White) and I turned around in an instant and called him Herb. I couldn't believe it came out of my mouth, and he just laughed. Once again he made my day!! RIP Mr. Reif.
