Don was my teacher for a few years through Eastman when I was in high school in the late 70s. We would meet at his home and talk and play. I remember that he had an early home computer in his home studio and we were both fascinated by it. We shared a background in Latin study. He even did a minor repair to my cello that is still part of the instrument and makes me think of him when I play. It was such a pleasure working with Don. He was always kind, curious, and supportive. My belated condolences to his family. Don was a gem. Todd

Don and I were students at PS 80 in The Bronx, together in Miss Dank's fifth grade class. I recall him as our champion chess player. We became friends near the end of the school year. We lived a few blocks apart. One day we met in front of his home where he brought out his chemistry set and made a white wash with it. We then scrambled about our neighborhood painting whatever large stones we could find. No one stopped us. On the last day of school I agreed to meet him for another of our adventures, but my mother had other plans for me.
I never saw him again. We were 10. Miss Dank is now 93. I met her again when I taught her children. She didn't remember me or Don when I asked, but that was the beginning of her long career.

I am sad to learn of Don's passing three years ago. He was my cello teacher when I was in high school and he was on the faculty at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. I left to attend Haverford College, his alma mater. He was a wonderful musician (I especially remember playing in the university orchestra to accompany him in the Brahms Double Concerto) and a great teacher and influence in my life.

So sorry to hear of Don Reinfeld’s passing. He was my cello teacher when I was in high school in the early 1980s. He was a kind and patient man who was also a great teacher of technique and a magnificent cellist to boot. I admired him and looked up to him and tried to model myself after him. My condolences to Linda and the rest of his family.

Don was a figure in my life as I began to develop my focus and passion for trombone. His generosity of time and musical coaching helped to push me forward during a time when I was questioning my commitment to music. Now as music and trombone are becoming my world, I have Don to thank as one of my early mentors.
His kindness, belief in me, and lessons aren’t forgotten.

It was only 6 or 7 years ago that I met Don, yet in my heart, it has been a lifetime.
Don’s zest for learning, for living, and for all things beautiful and creative carries me through moments in each of my days. He will always be with me, and for that I am deeply blessed!
Linda – I send my sincerest love and support of you and yours. How I wish there were not so many miles separating us. My heart is with you.
Love,
Jane

I met Don Reinfeld when he was a man in his 30's and I was a young mom taking my child to his home in Buffalo for cello lessons. His passion for music, commitment to his students, and happiness in being alive greatly impressed me. He never lost those qualities. I thank him for that.

I didn't know Don as well as most, but I enjoyed talking to him whenever we met and loved hearing about his bowmaking, amongst many other of his life's passions. He was a good man, and will be missed.
