Obituary of Gabriel G. Alfonso

 It is with sadness that the family of Gabriel G. Alfonso announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, June 26th,  2018 at the age of 55. Gabriel, affectionately know to friends and family as Gabe,  died in Hghland Hospital of cardiac arrest. His wish to be cremated was provided through the services of Miller Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. on June 29th 2018. Gabriel is survived by his wife Melanie Hillenbrand Alfonso and two daughters from their marriage; Olivia Maureen Alfonso, age 22; and Alanna Gillian Alfonso, age 21. Gabe was predeceased by his mother, Lucia Alfonso Rodriguez in 2012, and his father, Feliciano Braulio Alfonso in 1997. 
     Mr. Alfonso came to the United States with his parents at the age of 7 from Montevideo, Uruguay where he was born. He and his parents became US citizens and were proud to be Americans and loved their new adopted country. After graduating from Martin Luther High School in Maspeth, Queens, Gabe went onto college and graduated  from Syracuse University in 1984, a dream of his parents. Mr.Alfonso’s career path lead him to the NYPD, where he served his community during 9/11 and retired with disability at the rank of Sergeant in December of 2007. 
     At the time of his death he was a resident  of Rochester, NY and prior to 2013 he spent his retired life with his family in Goshen, NY. Gabriel spent most of his life in this country as a resident of Woodside, Queens, NYC where a memorial service, celebrating his life will be held July 7th, 2018 at 2:00 in St. Jacobus Evangelical Church, 72-01 43rd Avenue, Woodside, NY 11377. A fellowship gathering will take place thereafter in the community room at the church. An additional memorial gathering will take place in Rochester, NY on July 21st, location and time provided from and to his friends of Rochester.
