Obituary of Jean A. Hochuli

Hochuli, Jean A. Pittsford; January 31, 2014 at the age of 91. After a hard fought battle with COPD and congestive heart failure, Jean finally succumbed with pneumonia at Highland Hospital. Jean thrived until the age of 90 and was still living independently and driving. She is predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Henry W. Hochuli, sons-in-law Henry Sandore, Raymond Wallman, grandson John Raymond and 4 siblings. She is survived by her five children, Betsie Sandore, Margo (Keith) Schubmehl, Diane (Sandy) Hartman, Tom (Laura) Hochuli, Tracy (Chris) Flynn, and 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters-in-law. Jean was born in Maplewood NJ on April 26th in 1922. She received her Bachelor's degree from Skidmore College in 1945, worked at Hahne and Company in Advertising in Newark, NJ as well as Parents Institute in NYC. She married Henry on April 10th 1948. They had 5 children and 35 years of marriage before he passed away of cancer. Jean was a devoted donator to World Vision and St. Jude's Children's Hospital and she was a literacy volunteer for a number of years. She loved to golf at Shadow Lake where her daughter Diane worked and loved all of the people there who treated her so well. When she was younger, she was an avid tennis player and loved to swim. Always an adventurer, even at age 90 she got on a jet ski on Canandaigua Lake. Jean was probably best known for being a beautiful piano player. Her Steinway Baby Grand was a precious prize and when she played, everyone loved to listen. She lived her last several years at the Legacy in Victor where she made several special friends. Friends may call on Saturday, February 8th 1-3pm at the Lucey-VanVoorhis Funeral Home, 301 West Main Street in Victor. Following calling hours, there will be a brief memorial service at 3:00 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Jean's memory made be directed to the American Heart Association.
