Obituary of Elaine P. Abbott

Beloved wife, mother and sister in Christ, Elaine Popp Abbott, reposed in the Lord on June 27, 2019.  A coal miner's daughter, she was born in Lansford, PA February 9, 1932.  With the support and encouragement of her family, she studied chemistry at Duke University, worked as an industrial chemist for several years, then as mother, musician and master gardener.  She taught Piano, guitar, and violin in the home, tutored k-12 students in math and chemistry, and was part of the all-woman folk band WIldwood Flower.   Elaine was the first woman to serve as parish warden of St. John the Baptist Eastern Orthodox Church. 

 

She is survived by her husband, George Richard "Rich" Abbott, children Lisa Courtney, Laura (Chuck) Civiletti, and Charles Abbott; grandchildren David "DJ" Civiletti and Theresa Civiletti; and many friends and extended family members.  

 

She was predeceased by her parents (Joseph and Anna) and by brothers (George, Dick, Joseph, Bill and Bobby) and sister Martha.  

 

Prayers will be offered during a Panikhida at 4:30 PM on Saturday, June 29 at St. John the Baptist Eastern Orthodox Church, 855 South Goodman St, Rochester NY 14620.  Friends may call from 2-4 PM on Sunday, June 30 at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 3325 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14623.  Donations in lieu of flowers may be directed to St. John the Baptist Eastern Orthodox Church.
