Obituary of Lodewyk J Boyon
Coach ‘B’ passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 15th at age 84. Survived by his best friend and loving wife of 61 years, Nellie; son, Louis; daughter-in-law, Lisa; grandkids Paige (15) and Matthew (13). Predeceased by his mother, Ria and stepfather Peter Baanstra.
After immigrating to the US in 1959, Lou graciously accepted his military draft request in 1960 as a Dutch citizen and served in the Army. Lou was a retiree of RIT after 38 years of service. His greatest passion, however, was the teaching and promotion of the game of soccer. Having played semi-pro in Holland himself, Lou established fields on the RIT campus, held numerous volunteer positions in Monroe County, coached and mentored in Rush-Henrietta, at McQuaid Jesuit HS and at the Girls U19 level.
A man of pride, integrity and honor, Lou’s life story will be celebrated during his visiting hours, 10:00am-noon on Saturday, July 20th at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 3325 Winton Rd. S followed by his Funeral Service at noon. Interment Maplewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to National Eczema Association (Website).
