Obituary of Gene N. Simmons

Gene Simmons, age 80, died on October 6, 2019, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.  Gene was predeceased by his parents, George and Ann Simmons; former wife, Flo, and brother Lee.  He is survived by wife, Julie; his sons John and Kevin (Lisa) Simmons and daughter Tammy (John) Clifford; grandchildren:  Wyatt and Payton Simmons-Roy, Madison and Morgan Simmons, Landon and Larissa Clifford, sister-in-law Bonnie McClenithan, several nieces, nephews, other family members and many good friends.

 

Born on April 28, 1939 in Prattsburgh NY, Gene graduated from Hobart College and worked for Xerox for 35 years, retiring as a Program Launch Manager.

 

Gene was a gifted athlete who enjoyed tennis, running, bicycling and golf.  He was an IABBO Board 60 Boys Basketball referee for many years.  In retirement, he was a motorcycle escort for funerals and enjoyed spending time with family, riding his “Wheel Horse” lawn tractor, playing golf at WildWood CC and traveling.  Gene started each morning working out with his “Dawn Patrol” friends at the MetroCenter YMCA.

 

The family would like to thank Gene’s physicians, especially Dr. John Garneau, and the staff at the Jewish Home for their wonderful care.

 

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, October 16th from 9-11 AM at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, 3325 Winton Road South, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM in the Interfaith Chapel of the funeral home.  Interment will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene’s memory may be made to the Carlson MetroCenter YMCA, 444 E. Main St., Rochester NY 14604.
