Mary Culley

Obituary of Mary Lou Culley

Passed away on April 1, 2020 in Strong Memorial Hospital less than two days after a grievous fall, four days after her 90th birthday.

Mary Lou was born in Rochester to the late Charles & Myrtle Tickner.

A graduate of the University of Rochester (BA, MS), and a longtime member of the choir at Christ Church Pittsford, Mary Lou spent many years teaching beginners (first and second graders) at School #22 on Zimbrich St. in Rochester, with notable skill and excellence.

She met her husband, Donald, on a blind date after his discharge from the US Navy.  She and Don participated in several music groups, making summer tours to Europe.

Among these groups was Genesee Valley Orchestra and Chorus (for which she played first violin), Rochester Oratorio Society, Greece Choral Society, and Finger Lakes Choral Society.

She and Don started collecting 4x6 inch national flags for countries they had visited together, with a total of 20 flags resulting.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral arrangements are pending.  Those wishing to make memorial contributions in Mary Lou’s name may consider Christ Church, Pittsford, or any musical group previously mentioned.
