I worked with Bob for decades and remained "Christmas Card" friends since retiring over two decades ago. Bob was one of my instructors during my first year at the I.R.S. Training Center at Hofstra University and I got to know him after I transferred to Rochester. While we joked with Bob, especially at his retirement party, he always took our kidding in good humor and was able to laugh with us. It was through Bob that I got to meet Valera when I was President of the Rochester Genealogical Society and learn about his new life. The few times I saw Bob since retiring he was much happier, and more relaxed than he ever was during our work days/years. It was more than obvious that his marriage and companionship brought great joy and happiness to his life.
May he be remembered for all his kindness and unique sense of humor. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Valera and all of Bob's extended family. Rest in Peace my friend.
Peace and Blessings,
Rev. James L. Swarts
Rochester, NY

Bob joined our family while I was still very young. I still remember the beautiful wedding at Canandaigua Lake. One thing that stood out to me other than the beautiful venue and how happy he and my Grandma were, was that Bob included the Jewish tradition of breaking of the glass. This was just one example of him embracing and being curious about other cultures.
He and my Grandma would go on to travel the world to so many interesting places, have so many great cultural experiences, and learn a lot about different cultures. I always enjoyed sitting in the sun room with them and hearing these stories. I would also enjoy hearing Bob's knowledge of Japanese culture and getting to see his collection of netsukes. I tried his green tea with brown rice during one of our chats in the sun room and loved it. I told Bob how much I enjoyed it and after that, he would periodically have a container of this tea for me to take home when I would visit. It was a great example of his generosity.
Bob also had a passion for lifelong learning and was taking classes throughout his life. His curiosity about different cultures and desire to learn throughout his life was an inspiration to me and the rest of our family. As I got older it was really fun to be able to share some of my own cultural experiences and travel stories with him.
Bob's love for my Grandma and our family will be greatly missed. Love you Bob

Bob joined our family a little over 20 years ago. His love for my mother was very precious. From their start at their beautiful wedding overlooking Canandaigua Lake, I could tell Mom and Bob would be sharing some wonderful years together.
Bob loved to share stories in a most eloquent fashion and truly enjoyed sharing his experiences with others. He was loved by my children, and we spent summer days at Mom and Bob's house when the boys were little; swimming in the pool and sharing cookouts. Bob loved going to Powers Market or Wegmans to bring us home goodies. We spent several New Year's evenings together sharing appetizers and champagne. We had a family tradition of gathering before Christmas to sing Christmas carols and Bob enjoyed ringing the sleigh bells while singing. Bob knew many historical facts and was an encyclopedia when facts were needed during conversations. He was on par with google. Bob enjoyed tea and making it with his special tea pot. He enjoyed Sushi from California Rollin', canolis from Wegmans and going to the Penfield Racquet and Pool Club. Bob loved life.
Bob did not have any children of his own, but he certainly adopted us and our children with ease, and he was a prominent figure in our lives. Not so long ago, I shared with him a challenge I was having at work, and in one sentence, he clarified the situation for me. I immediately felt comforted. I wish I had learned of his skill in this area earlier, as it certainly would have been helpful. But I will never forget the way he shared his love in this instance.
I will miss Bob's presence going forward and hope that his love of learning and ability to chose activities that brought joy to his life will continue to live on in our family.
All my love to you Bob! Love Karen

Bob and Valera were an important part of my U U Sunday experience. I enjoyed seeing them and their smiling faces as part of our worship service. Valera and I go way back to tennis days and I send my heartfelt condolences to you all. Nancy Brush
