Obituary of Joan M. Loewenguth

Joan Marie McGlynn Loewenguth

Joan Marie McGlynn Loewenguth, known for dedication to her family, impeccable style, gracious entertaining, and delightful presence, died on Thursday, April 30, 2020 from natural causes.

Joan was born on October 22, 1931 to Henry and Marian McGlynn at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, New York. She grew up in Holy Apostles Parish and attended Nazareth Academy. Joan met her husband, Richard Loewenguth, at Conesus Lake, and their sweet meeting turned into a fruitful, lasting marriage of 45 years with a family of six children and fifteen grandchildren. The family home was on Seneca Parkway in Rochester, with summers spent at their cottage on Wellesley Island.

Joan lived a life rich with friends, family, service, and dedication to her faith. She was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish and worked in the Rectory for many years. In her later years, Joan returned to Blessed Sacrament with Richard, where new memories were created. She was also an active volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital where she served on the Women’s Board.

Joan was known for her quick wit, playful spirit, and warm heart. She threw incredible dinner and pool parties, and some of the family’s fondest memories took place gathered together around her kitchen table. Joan’s greatest gift, which emanated from the core of her being, was her unconditional love. She passed on this quality to all her children, family members, and friends, and she will be fondly remembered for all that she brought to the world.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, Richard, and her son, Peter. She is survived by Peter’s wife, Jeanne Hilsinger, her daughter, Mary Loewenguth (Margaret Sanchez), sons, David, Mark, Thomas (Gina) and Eric (Tracey). Joan was the proud and beloved grandmother of Brian, Aidan, Carl, Claire, Jack, Maddie, Sophie, Mae, Charlie, Chloe, David, Lily, Will, Olivia & Peter. Joan is predeceased by her sister, Gloria, brothers, Donald and Robert. She is survived by her brothers, Paul (Marie) McGlynn and Jack (Jean) McGlynn, nieces, nephews and friends.

We wish to thank the staff of St. Johns’ Home for their care and support of Joan these last few years, especially the staff of Hastings One. They were the smiling faces that Mom came to recognize each day and we will always be grateful.

At some point in the future, we will come together to celebrate Joan’s life with all the people that loved and knew her.
