Mr. Coakley was one of my dad's favorite ""partners in crime"", whether it was marching in a parade, talking politics or rehashing ""the old days"", they were two of a kind. God, Country, family. The greatest generation. God bless. My condolences to the family.

I willl always remember being called ""Tiger"" and Ken always knowing what kind of Ice Cream I wanted. He would always go out of his way to make us kids smile. Just the little memory of knowing our names when he knew so many or the quick little ride in the ice cream truck, it was always a special moment when we would hear him coming down the road. Now as I am older I truly believe he was a kind soul who genuinely cared for the well being of others. He made the world a happier place and will forever hold a special place in my heart.

We will always remember Ken, THE ICE CREAM MAN! He was a big part of our child hood memories. We used to wait for him to come up the hill when we were young children. Sometimes when we didn't have enough money or any money at all he say," It's on me today Tiger!" He was a nice man and had a BIG heart... We are very sad to hear of his passing. There is definitely a seat waiting for him up in heaven right next to god. WE WILL ALWAYS REMEBER YOU...FROM THE HOOK KIDS ON WALLMAN DRIVE.

The sound of Ken the ice cream man's bell sent excitement through my bones as I ran to my dad to get some money for a buried treasure or maybe the ice cream with the gumball at the bottom. I hear Ken yell out, ""Hey Tiger"" as he waits for me to run to his truck, (if I didn't get to the side of the road first). I was fortunate enough to hang out with Ken as a young adult and tell him that he and his truck full of ice cream was a fond memory from my childhood. May he rest in peace.

There are only a few staples I think about when remembering my childhood in Henrietta: Good Shepherd School, Wegmans, and of course Ken the ice cream man. When I think back, I can still hear the sound of his bell (being rung with a wrench of course) and see that glorious red truck of his as it pulled up my street. If he didn't call me "Tiger" then he called me "Kevin." That wasn't my name of course, but I didn't care. As far as I was concerned, the man was a saint. He could call me anything he wanted. And now, upon hearing of his passing, I know that he truely has become one. Thanks for all of the memories Ken.

Some of my fondest memories were of running to get Ice Cream and riding in the truck with Ken in my neighborhood. One of the first stories my Mother in law told me was of Ken the Ice Cream man stopping in South Towne Plaza when he saw my now husband sitting alone in the car crying. Well he was sent to the car cause he was not being good in the story. Well Ken being Ken gave my hubby a nice big chocolate ice cream he did not care the the inside of the car was white. lol Well when Mother in law came out to the car she was mad but there was one happy child in the car. Ken had a huge heart and touched so many lives. My sympathy to Scott and the rest of the family. May you rest in peace Ken.

Ken was a fixture of my youth, something that could be counted on every summer with his red truck and ringing bell. My waves would be greeted by ""hey there, tiger!"" or ""hey, slugger!"" and I would be left happier as his truck passed by. While my blessings to your family are added, you have already been blessed by knowing and living alongside such a kind man.

Thousands of young adults in and around Henrietta will remember him as "Ken the Ice Cream Man," who drove around their neighborhoods in Henrietta every summer when they were kids - a fixture at the back of Henrietta's Town Park each and every Fourth of July. Local politicians, both past and present will remember him as an integral part in their success both in getting elected and thereafter. He loved politics, whether it be taking around petitions, putting up campaign signs, or simply talking strategies with friends in office. Others still will remember him as a Madison graduate, former grocery store owner, Delco employee or New York State Trooper. Some will remember him from his days in the NAVY during World War II. All will agree that he could be rough and tough at times, or make a young child beam ear to ear with a "how ya doing, tiger" or "you betcha!" His smile and laugh were contagious. He will be remembered as a loved husband, a father, brother, son, grandfather, great-grandfather and a dear friend to many. He was put on this earth 84 years ago and touched lives and hearts in each and every one of them. Whether it be a stop to the old Pillars for a drink, a day at the racetrack or Red Wings game, or simply a visit to the grocery store, he knew and talked to everyone. Everywhere. The friendships he made over the years were as numerous as the lessons and beliefs he has passed on to those around him. His days here on earth have come to an end as he is now in a better place. It is said that you should not mourn the loss of ones you love, but instead celebrate their life. In the days since he left this Earth it has become very clear that though extremely hard, this is probably exactly what he'd want. He lived a life he could be proud of. He was the type of person that young men aspire to be. The love that he shared, the lives that he shaped and the lessons and beliefs he passed on will not soon be forgotten, for that was the man my grandfather was, Kenneth Coakley - You Betcha Tiger!

Some of my absolute best memories of when Ken would ride into the neighborhood ringing the bell on his big red truck. He always had a nickname for us kids (probably because there were so many of us). But he always had a smile for us and was always upbeat and cheerful. I thought even back then that he would be the best grandpa ever! And if the day was very very hot he would give us a ride across the neighborhood in his cool truck. Ken was the GREATEST.

He is a part of many childhood memories and that is proven by all of the people that responded on facebook when it was posted that Ken the ice cream man had died.
