Uncle Al, although I never really got the chance to get to know you, I hope you are proud that I am continuing the family tradition of educating the youth of Rochester in the City School District. God speed. To the rest of the Valvano family, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

I worked as student aide in my senior year for Mr. Valvano when he was Vice Principal at John Marshall HS. It was a real honor working with someone with that amount of class and intellect. He was very smooth, instintive and very fair with the students in a difficult era. I never forgot the message he wrote in my yearbook that year - "Best wishes to Larry, my trusted messenger, aide and friend". And he underlined the word "friend".
This was 1968....I never forgot him.

I have not forgotten the man who was the role model as I entered the field of education. My last name changed from Valvano but the "old timers" of the RVSD still knew I was Al Valvano's neice and I knew he had set the bar to a high standard for me. I enjoyed crossing paths with Uncle Al throughout the years. Even in retirement we would connect at various functions. Van and I have been out of town and are sorry we missed the Mass but Uncle Al is remembered in my prayers. Brian and Lisa also send their sympathy to the remaining members of the family. God bless.

Mr. V helped me through my application to college while a student at Madison High School. Since I only applied to one college, he said that I was putting my eggs in one basket! I am sure with his help, I was accepted and went on to become a teacher, Vice-Principal and Principal of a city school. My husband Dan taught at East High and respected Mr. V. for his dedication and leadership as principal of East High School. Our sympathy goes out to his family and friends!

My husband, David, and I had the honor of being taught by "Mr. V" at Madison High School. He was a great teacher and friend to all that knew him. He treated all his students with respect, thus, all his students respected him. Our extend our deepest sympathy.

I was saddened to see Mr. V's obituary this morning. I will never forget him. He was my Senior Adviser at Madison HS in 1962 and had it not been for him I would not have graduated with my class. Mr V, as we all new him was a compassionate man with only the needs of his students on his mind. Although I haven't seen him since graduation, I often thought of him. Thanks Mr V!!:)
