To the Family:
As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Please find comfort in the following Bible verse, John 11: 11 where Jesus said: ..”Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.” Please also find comfort in knowing that our Almighty Heavenly Father holds out the hope of the resurrection and the ability to see our loved ones again.

Mary was such an inspiration to the social work community, and an asset to Rochester in particular. As a social work student at Nazareth College, I was able to meet her on several occassions, and feel priveleged to have known her, even in a small way. My condolescences to her family and loved ones. She will be greatly missed.

The greatest mentor I can imagine. Aunt Mary to both myself and my children, oh how we adored her. she certainly pointed me in the right direction. She taught me how to be strong and be professional, she was not only great to work for but a shining armor who was always there for all of us through our struggles, happy times and glimpse into the future. We will remember you for the rest of our lives. The lights will always shine on you.

The most amazing woman I have ever known or will ever know. I will miss listening to all of her stories and sharing the memories of her life as she recalled them. Her spirit will forever live in the hearts and minds of the countless people she has touched. She will forever live in my heart.

I've known Mary since I was 18, I'm now 77. I worked for Mary at the Genesee Settlement House and I was also a teacher for many years. Mary was the one who taught me how to deal with parents and administrators. My deepest sympathy on the loss of my dear friend. May you rest in peace Mary.

Camp Fisher/Genesee Settlement House was a lifeline during summer holidays. Our widowed mother was out working full-time and I'm not sure that our dear grandmother (also widowed) could have coped having my two younger brothers and myself under her feet all day every day, all summer long. We have lots of happy memories Camp Fisher - of trips to Durand Eastman Park, hikes (and hot dog roasts) along Densmore Creek, swims at the CYO and "Natatoriuim" (?), and, I believe, even an overnight at Powder Mill Park - not to mention the creative hours spent in the workshop behind the Settlement House itself. And wonderful, fun-loving staff - Bob Stephenson, Ann Stehle, Bill Trott and others - some of whom, it seemed even to this little11 year-old camper, were more than a little intimidated by Mary who ran a tight (but safe) ship. God bless you, Mary.

Ms. Hannick was one of the most important people in my life. She is the greatest person I have ever known. I believe she directed my life greatly and through the years she was there when I needed her. Even when my own mother passed away out of state, she somehow knew I needed to hear her voice. She showed up at our memorial service and stayed with us for part of day. We continued to keep in touch with her through the years since I was at Genesee Settlement House. I shall miss her and know that she can never be replaced.

I was a camper at Genesee Settlement House at Camp Fisher in the 1960's--started 1962. Miss Hannick was our Leader---she was strict, fair, and we LOVED her--and our parents loved her too....regardless of race or creed---we were all her children---I had the pleasure of talking to her on the phone a couple years ago--and she sounded as sharp as ever ! She always had time for kids of both Camp Fisher and Camp Philander too--both GSH Camps---the neighborhood was better and I am better because of Miss Hanick. She will always be Camper of the day and Camper of the Year too ! I am sure by now she is already "orgainizing" some events in heaven !

Oh our Beautiful Angel, Tia. We love you so very much. You are the most incredible person this world has ever seen. I shall instill all the lessons of love and life you've taught me for all in the hearts of our children, they shall carry your legacy. The Lord welcomes you with open arms. We know that you will be "keeping everyone right" in Heaven! Our Tia, the lady who wore gorgeous bright colors at funerals and asked, "Why not? This is a celebration of life." Tia you have been and always will be my life...xoxo

I remember Ms. Hannick when I attended Camp Fisher. I thought she had to many rules; but she was keeping all the day campers and staff safe. Thank you for enriching my life.

Here is a song "Aunt Mary" left on my answering machine. Do a YouTube search for "Mary Hannick" to hear her sing it.
We come from Camp Fisher
We hike and swim all day
Our leaders are so merry - oh so very gay
We do our crafts in the morning
We swim all afternoon
When its time to go home,
Evening comes too soon.
One day as I was walking,
I heard Miss Mary talking..
To the pretty little girl with the red and white hat
And she said to her..
"Our rules you must remember
Our rules you must obey, from now
Until September and
Do them every day"
We L O V E Fisher
We L O V E You
We L O V E Fisher and every thing we do
Camp Fisher!
What a treasure. You are forever in our hearts Aunt Mary .

In our final conversation last week Aunt Mary asked: "Am I the best godmother ever?" my heart burst open with a resounding "Yes, Aunt Mary, forever and ever".
