A Odd Coincidence...
The Sunday of 11/6/2011, I was to go to a play done by the " 'Off Monroe' Players"(who acquired their name originally due to being located off Monroe Avenue) with a past co-worker/friend who lives off Monroe Avenue and was a 'no show' picking me up where I live, also off Monroe Avenue. I read later that Charlie of Westfall Florists who went to "Monroe High School" with my Father passed on, on this day also.
My friend (who forgot about the play)and I re-scheduled for another day which was my birthday. After the play someone found a bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums(November's flower) on the ground and gave them to me. The flowers are still looking beautiful in their vases of water.
Who left those chyrsanthemums on the ground, a Off Monroe High School Player?

I knew Charlie since my days in my restaurant on Fitzhugh St. and I continued as a satisfied customer of his flower shop. Whenever, I visited him, we would reminisce about the "good old" days, families and friends. He was always friendly, courteous and respectful.
Charlie will be truly missed.

As my father already stated we only had the one opportunity to meet Charlie but thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon together. I'm so glad he took the time to look us up at the time of my Mother's passing and reconnect the two families. My sympathy to the entire Westfall family.

Always enjoyed getting flowers at Westfall and talking with Charlie. We remember times on Mulberry St where we lived and I was his D&C carrier in the 50's.
Later when I got involved in politics we would talk about what was going on and even though from different parties, we agreed more than disagreed. My sympathy to he family whom he loved greatly

Mt. Hope neighborhood has lost one of it's greatest! My father's childhood neighborhood and later thru life, and a friend of Charlie's, they went to Monroe High together, both served in the South Pacific in WWII, Westfall, was our family's florist including my wedding flowers. One of my most recent conversations with Charlie was his referral to me to Marlow Orchids, I needed a WWII Era corsage Orchid for a Remembrance Service for my Dad and Mom at White Haven Memorial Park ..the Orchid of WWII era has taken on another special memory and this is of Charlie... he will be greatly missed...
My Sympathy and Condolences,
)udy Heagney-O'Hara

My sincere condolences to the family on the loss of a true community icon. Charlie knew my parents and grandparents, and always provided for our floral needs with that special personal touch. We will miss his kind smile and gentle presence whenever we came into Westfall Florists.

I only met Charlie once but that was enough to know what a wonderful person he really was. I just wish time would have allowed us the opportunity get to know each other better.
He recognized the name Herschell in the paper when my wife died and sent flowers in her memory. That ws how I got to meet him. I can also remember my grandmother telling her daughters whn there was a death that they better call Uncle Will and get some flowers sent out.
Our sympathies to the entire famly on your loss.
George Herschell III and the entire Herschell family.

Deep felt sympathy to the whole family. I haven't seen you in years but remember you, Deb and your dancing as well as the florist shop. Hard to believe so many years have passed. My parents John and Marilyn always spoke highly of Charlie, my Dad having graduated with him. May your memories comfort you.

We will miss all those neighborly conversations. I'l think of Charlie when my tulips come out in the Spring and how he loved watching my across-the-street garden grow.
