Obituary of Roy E. VanDelinder

Passed away in his 76th year on August 24, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital with friends at his side. Roy was predeceased by his parents Roy & Lucile VanDelinder; sister, Rev. Dr. Bonnie L. VanDelinder. He is survived by his cousins, friends & neighbors at Valley Manor, "The Residence", colleagues from the Rochester City School District, fellow brothers of the Free & Accepted Masons of New York & close friends Dorothy R. Pecoraro & Robert (Mary) Stevenson and family. Roy served his country in the United States Air Force as Captain. He was a teacher and administrator in the RCSD at Monroe, Madison, Jefferson, East & Edison Tech. He was very active in the Rochester Teachers' Association as a member and served as president. He belonged to the Unity Lodge F&AM #479 and was elected to many leadership positions. He was a past Most Pre-Eminent Distinguished Governor General & past Treasurer General of the York Rite Sovereign College of North America. He was a past High Priest of Hiram Chapter No. 62, Royal Arch Masons, past Commander of Cyrene-Monroe Commandery No. 12 Knights Templar & Meritorious Service Brother of Scottish Rite Valley of Rochester. Roy was a lifetime member of Christ Church on East Ave. He continued his devoted service to the church at Valley Manor. Many thanks to the nurses, doctors & staff of the 3-2800 ICU & the Palliative Care Units at Strong for their excellent care & support. Calling hours will be held Friday, 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at Miller Funeral Homes (3325 Winton Rd. S.). A 1 P.M. Mass will be celebrated Saturday at Christ Church (141 East Ave.) A private interment will be held at White Haven Memorial Park. Donations in Roy's memory may be directed to a charity of your choice.
