Obituary of Paula Carroll
Paula (Ruth) Carroll, a woman of faith, integrity, and unflagging humor, died on April 23, 2012 in Rochester, New York after courageously battling multiple medical problems. Although Paula was an intensely spiritual person and a woman of prayer, she was never overpious. Her faith was the source of her joy and she never missed an opportunity to laugh and make others laugh. Wherever she went she drew people to herself.
Born and raised in Rochester, Paula was the 12th of 13 children and the youngest girl in her large and loving family. Her parents, John and Mary Carroll, and her 9 brothers and 3 sisters all pre-deceased her. At an early age Paula entered religious life with the Alleghany Franciscan Sisters, eventually earning a bachelor's degree from Rochester's Nazareth College and a master's degree in art from Notre Dame University, where the fruits of her artistic talent are still prominently displayed. She also shared her considerable talents with the youth, having taught both parochial and public school in a number of States at various levels from elementary to college for over 54 years. Paula loved teaching and many former students kept in touch with her over the years.
Paula had a lifelong devotion to St. Francis and St. Clare. She made numerous numerous journeys to the birthplace of these saints, the town of Assisi, Italy, and her life motto was "Sacred Heart of Jesus I place my trust in You."
Throughout her life Paula cherished her family and friends. Paula is survived by a great number of nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews, and one sister-in-law. She will be greatly missed by them and her many dear friends.
A memorial mass will be held for Paula on MONDAY April 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Saint Anne Church, 1600 Mt. Hope Avenue. Paula would appreciate masses said in her memory, and asks that her family and friends pray for a friend or family member in need.
